Dentures

Dentures can be attached to existing teeth, implants, or completely toothless jaws.

When should you choose dentures?

If the distance between the teeth is too large and it is not possible to span it with one or more bridges, you can consider a removable prosthesis. Compared to removable dentures, bridges are more comfortable, more durable and more stable. For these reasons, the bridge is the better choice – but only if suitable anchoring options are available.

If there are large gaps in the teeth, one can of course always consider dental implants, too, in order to get a fixed solution that is always more stable, aesthetic and functionally better. However, if teeth are lost, the bone loss can be so advanced that implants can no longer be placed, dentures could be the best choice.

What types of prostheses are there?

  • Clasp prosthesis
  • Telescopic prosthesis
  • Implant-supported prosthesis
  • Removable full denture

Clasp prosthesis

The clasp prosthesis is a removable prosthesis that is attached to the existing teeth with a metal clasp. The clip and framework are made of metal, which gives the prosthesis additional stability, and is combined with plastic gums and teeth. The clasp prosthesis can be made when there are enough stable teeth to attach the clips to.

Telescopic prosthesis

The telescopic prosthesis is also a removable prosthesis, but the connection to the own teeth is solved with a so-called telescopic crown.

Telescopic crown is made out of metal and it consists of two parts, the primary crown part is placed on the existing teeth while the secondary crown is part of the prosthesis. The primary and secondary crowns together form a very stable unit, allowing a huge increase in comfort compared to classical removable prostheses.

Implant-supported prosthesis

A prosthesis attached to a dental implant is certainly the strongest and most stable type of prosthesis. It restores high-quality chewing function and a confident smile.

In fact, it feels very similar to your own teeth meaning that it doesn’t move at all when you talk or eat.

At the Flydent Clinic we produce a so-called bar prosthesis. In this case the dental implants are connected with a metal bar which becomes the holder of  the prosthesis. The bar prosthesis is also a removable prosthesis, so it can be easily cleansed, maximizing its lifespan.

Removable full denture

A removable full denture can be used when there are no natural teeth left and implants are not possible due to bone recession. The prosthesis itself is made of a pink plastic (PMMA) and the teeth are also formed from the same material. An essential element in the manufacture of the prosthesis is that it must be very precise to avoid redness and swelling. If teeth are also extracted, the prosthesis usually needs to be relined, i.e. adjusted, after the swelling has subsided, some time after the treatment.

Prothese Kosten
