What does smart tissue mean in dentistry?
It would be easy to think that you are reading a science fiction story when you learn about intelligent tissue technology, but the development is so much a part of our present that we at the FlyDent Clinic are also dealing with it. Dr. Róbert Gyuris, our clinic’s Intelligent Tissue representative and immediate implant specialist, user of Intelligent Tissue technology, can help our patients if someone wants to choose the most modern bone augmentation technique.
According to our clinic’s experience, a significant percentage of people over 40 not only struggle with missing teeth, but also with bone loss. In such a case, if you are looking for a fixed solution instead of removable dentures, the bone must be rebuilt in order to be able to insert the implants.
In the 1980s it seemed like a good idea to use xenograft, i.e. a foreign bone replacement material, but in the time that has passed since then it has become clear that this is not the final and best solution. There is a high risk of infection due to a foreign substance entering the body.
To eliminate the risk caused by any foreign material, the patient’s own bone, such as the hip bone, was later used during the operation. Of course, as it sounds, it was a complicated procedure because in addition to the dental treatment, another operation had to be carried out.
In recent years, however, blood products have also become the focus of experts, because blood also contains regenerative substances that can form bone tissue and it can adapt perfectly to the respective body.
The procedure is much less complicated than previous solutions and the risks associated with the operation are practically zero.
What is necessary for intelligent tissue to emerge?
On the day of the operation or in the days before the operation, a specialist trained for this task takes blood from the patient using the prescribed technique. For that, the patient must drink plenty of fluids in the days before the operation to ensure that the blood volume is sufficient.
In a centrifuge, the blood is broken down into its components, from which the red blood cells are thrown out. From the point of view of bone formation, only white blood cells are useful because they contain regenerative substances.
The new product is created by mixing the 5- to 6-fold compressed material with allograft, i.e. human bone meal. The tests show that microvessels are already forming in this phase, which continue to develop when they are inserted into the cavity intended for bone filling.
The blood and allograft mixed product can be stored in a suitable refrigerator for ten days or even two weeks.
Another wonderful property of white blood cells is that, in addition to the regenerative elements, they also contain pain-relieving substances that make the healing time more pleasant.
According to experts, the results speak for themselves. Since no foreign substances enter the body, the use of antibiotics during operations is practically no longer necessary.
Likewise, thanks to the body-identical material, there have been no cases of infection in the last five years.
If there is little bone replacement material in the cavity, the defect can be replaced very easily. The research group’s enthusiasm is understandable: the procedure can not only be used in oral surgery, but numerous successful operations have also been carried out in veterinary medicine and traumatology.
At the FlyDent Clinic we are really proud that we can offer our patients the opportunity to choose the most modern bone augmentation technology.
The advantages of intelligent tissue technology at a glance:
- 100% biocompatible
- less invasive
- faster recovery
- also a great option when classic bone reconstruction is not possible
- more comfortable healing time
